Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for an urgent Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting on August 22 after Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot granted permission to prosecute him in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment scam.
A statement from the chief minister's office reveals that the meeting will take place in the Vidhana Souda conference Hall, focusing on recent developments in the MUDA case. Sources from the CM House informed PTI that Siddaramaiah will brief Congress legislators to plan their legal and political strategies against the allegations.
The Governor's approval for prosecution stemmed from complaints by three private individuals, alleging misuse of MUDA's compensatory site allotment scheme. The alleged scam involves the allotment of higher-value compensatory sites to Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathi, a claim which Siddaramaiah has denied. The Congress government has responded by forming a single-member inquiry commission under former High Court Judge Justice P N Desai to investigate.
