Doctor Brandishes Pistol at Protest, Booked by Gujarat Police

A doctor in Gujarat's Amreli city faces legal consequences for allegedly waving his licensed pistol during a protest on Friday, according to police reports.
The incident occurred at approximately 9.30 pm at Rajkamal Chowk, where medical professionals and students had gathered for a candle march to protest a rape-murder in Kolkata, stated Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Chirag Desai.
Dr. GJ Gajera, a private practitioner, reportedly brandished his licensed weapon to incite fear among the public, Desai added. Furthermore, Dr. Gajera violated a notification issued by the district magistrate regarding licensed firearms.
The doctor faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 353 (1), (b) for public mischief, and 270 for public nuisance, as well as the Arms Act and the Gujarat Police Act. The protest was organized by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and included participation from trainee doctors and staff of the Amreli Civil Hospital, who were protesting the brutal rape and murder of a fellow medical professional in Kolkata.
