A special court in Chhattisgarh has handed down a 10-year prison sentence to four men for attempting to murder IAS officer Mayank Chaturvedi by using a JCB machine to crush his car, a government lawyer confirmed on Wednesday.

Special judge Jitendra Kumar Jain imposed a Rs 10,000 fine on the convicts Kanhaiya Patel, Haricharan Patel, Loknath Patel, and Lal Sai Nishad.

On April 12, 2019, Chaturvedi was inspecting the Timarlaga mining belt in Sarangarh when the accused assaulted him. The court also ordered the confiscation of the car, JCB machines, and motorcycles involved in the crime. Chaturvedi now serves as the collector of Dantewada district.
