Man Sentenced to Death for Killing Wife and Children in Chhattisgarh

In a case that has stunned the community, a local court has sentenced a 34-year-old man to death for the brutal murders of his wife and three minor children in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district. The man, Umend Kewat, was found guilty of the heinous crime, committed out of suspicion of an extramarital affair.

Tenth Additional Sessions and District Court Judge Avinash K Tripathi termed the crime as an act of 'extreme brutality' while delivering the judgment on Tuesday. The judge classified the case under the 'rarest of rare' category, justifying the capital punishment.

On January 1, Kewat strangled his wife Sukrita and three children, Khushi, Lisa, and Pawan, in a fit of rage at their home in Hirri village. In addition to the death sentence, the court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Kewat.
