UDF Stands Firm on Mullaperiyar Dam: Safety for Kerala, Water for Tamil Nadu

The UDF opposition in Kerala has reaffirmed its stance over the 125-year-old Mullaperiyar dam, situated in the Idukki district. They maintain that Tamil Nadu can source water from the dam, but Kerala's safety must be ensured.

V D Satheesan, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, reiterated this position, emphasizing that it remains the unchanged stance of the UDF. Addressing reporters, Satheesan said Kerala seeks to ensure its safety while allowing water to Tamil Nadu.

This matter will be a key topic of discussion at the UDF meeting scheduled for August 19. Notably, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan recently stated that there was no immediate concern regarding the dam's safety, although different perspectives persist between the states.
