A Russian military blogger has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in a penal colony after being found guilty of spreading false information about the armed forces, according to state investigators.

Andrei Kurshin, the individual behind the 'Moscow Calling' Telegram channel, supported Russia's war in Ukraine yet criticized the military leadership's campaign tactics.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War referred to Kurshin as a 'fringe ultra-nationalist' who had crossed the boundaries of acceptable criticism regarding Russia's war effort at his arrest in August last year.
