Police have booked a street light maintenance company in connection with the electrocution of three people during heavy rainfall near the IFFCO metro station, officials said on Friday.
The incident happened on Wednesday night when Waseem from Delhi, Devinder Vajpayee from Unnao, and Jaipal Yadav from Mahendragarh came into contact with exposed electric wires under a tree while returning home from work.
Family members of the victims discovered many bare wires at the scene on Thursday morning and lodged a complaint accusing both the electricity and municipal corporations of negligence.
Following a complaint by Inderjeet Yadav, brother of the deceased Jaipal Yadav, the Gurugram Police launched an investigation, which showed that the street light maintenance company had installed the electric wires overhead instead of burying them underground, officials said.
A joint inspection by police, the electricity corporation, and the municipal corporation confirmed the company's negligence. An FIR was subsequently registered at Sector 29 police station under section 106 (death due to negligence) of the BNS.
