Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr announced that evangelist Apollo Quiboloy will not receive special treatment following his arrest. Quiboloy, wanted on charges of abuse and trafficking, faces accusations both in the Philippines and the U.S. President Marcos confirmed that Quiboloy will be treated like any other detainee.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr announced on Monday that evangelist Apollo Quiboloy will not receive special treatment following his arrest after a lengthy police search. Quiboloy, a self-proclaimed 'owner of the universe,' faces allegations of child and sexual abuse and human trafficking in the Philippines, and he's also wanted by the FBI on similar charges.
Marcos emphasized that Quiboloy, despite his significant following and influence, will be treated like any other arrested individual, stating, "There is no special treatment. We will respect his rights." More than 2,000 police were involved in the search operation that concluded on Sunday with Quiboloy's surrender.
Quiboloy's lawyer maintained his client's innocence and explained that the surrender was to prevent any escalation. The government is considering charges against those who aided Quiboloy in evading arrest. The Philippines' Department of Justice indicated that Quiboloy will first face trial in the country before any U.S. extradition requests are addressed.
