HNLU Announces Menstrual Leave Policy for Women Students

Part of its Health Shield Initiative, the policy offers compensatory attendance and additional support for students with conditions like PCOS, aiming for a supportive academic environment.

Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) in Chhattisgarh has introduced a menstrual leave policy for its female students, set to be effective from July 1, according to a university spokesperson.
The policy is a component of the broader HNLU Health Shield Initiative, emphasizing the university's dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive academic setting. 'The Menstrual Leave Policy is an acknowledgment of and response to the specific needs of young women students,' stated Prof V C Vivekanandan, Vice Chancellor of HNLU.
Under this new policy, students can claim one day of deemed attendance per calendar month during teaching days, and similar provisions will be extended during examination periods if bedrest is medically advised. Additionally, students suffering from conditions like PCOS can avail deemed attendance for six classes per subject per semester.
