A Delhi court has granted bail to Dr. Manish Rawat, a neurosurgeon at Safdarjung Hospital, accused of compelling patients to purchase overpriced surgical equipment from a specific store to fast-track their surgeries.
Special Judge Anil Antil noted that the case's trial has not yet commenced and will likely take considerable time to conclude. The judge imposed various conditions on Rawat, including not tampering with evidence, contacting witnesses, or leaving the country without court permission.
The CBI has alleged that Rawat colluded with others to demand payment from patients for consultations and surgical procedures, violating hospital protocols. Investigations revealed that he coerced patients into paying excessive amounts for surgical instruments, with profits shared with the store owner. Further allegations include directing patients to deposit bribes into a middleman's account and siphoning off excess money, laundering it through companies controlled by an associate in Bareilly.
