A tragic incident unfolded inside GTB Hospital when 32-year-old dentist Riyazuddin was fatally shot by a teenager in ward number 24 on Sunday, police disclosed on Monday.

Law enforcement authorities are rigorously investigating the case, suspecting a potential case of mistaken identity. A known criminal from the city's Welcome area had been relocated from the same ward just a day prior to the tragic event. The victim's family, too, believes that the criminal was the intended target.

In response, the hospital's resident doctors have launched an indefinite strike, citing serious safety concerns. Police teams, including the crime branch and several local units, are scrutinizing CCTV footage to track down the assailant and unravel the incident's multiple facets. The involvement of neighboring state police forces has also been enlisted to monitor potential border crossings by the suspect. Authorities are determined to apprehend the perpetrator promptly.
