Edmundo Gonzalez, the opposition presidential candidate in Venezuela, has fled the country and left the Spanish embassy where he was seeking asylum, according to Vice President Delcy Rodriguez.
Rodriguez revealed on Instagram that Gonzalez had exited the Spanish embassy and subsequently left Venezuela. Gonzalez had been seeking asylum at the embassy after running against President Nicolas Maduro in the July elections.
The departure of Gonzalez marks a significant development in the ongoing political tensions in Venezuela.
