In a significant crackdown, Delhi Police on Sunday arrested two members of an interstate arms supply gang that leveraged social media for their illicit operations. This gang, according to officials, procured arms from Khargone in Madhya Pradesh and supplied them across Delhi/NCR.
The apprehended individuals, identified as Arvind Kumar (45) and Vinod Kumar (48) from Uttar Pradesh, had eight countrymade 0.32 bore pistols in their possession. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amit Kaushik revealed that a tip-off on August 19 led to a strategic police operation along Agra canal road in Jaitpur, resulting in the arrests.
Kaushik noted that the duo had been involved in arms trafficking for more than eight years and had contacts with illegal arms manufacturers in Madhya Pradesh. They used social media to coordinate sales, purchasing weapons for Rs 12,000 to 15,000 per piece and selling them for Rs 25,000 to 30,000. Recently, they were offered Rs 40,000 per weapon by an associate of a notorious Delhi gangster. Arvind Kumar has 11 prior cases registered against him, and the investigation is ongoing to dismantle their entire network.
