Delhi LG VK Saxena has approved the appointment of 165 junior scientific assistants on a contract basis to address the growing need for forensic experts after the enactment of new criminal laws, Raj Niwas officials announced on Saturday.
Strengthening the Forensics Science Laboratory (FSL) is a key priority with the introduction of these three new criminal laws, Saxena noted during a recent meeting with Delhi Police and home department officers, the officials stated.
Saxena sanctioned the hiring of 165 junior scientific assistants (JSA) on Friday to address immediate needs while the FSL finalizes recruitment rules. The JSAs will be deployed at crime scenes, as per official sources.
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam have replaced the British-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act respectively, effective July 1st nationwide.
With scientific probes and evidence analysis becoming critical, the role of the FSL under the new regimen is more significant than ever, according to officials.
Recognizing the need for qualified professionals, Saxena has also approved the creation of 421 new positions within the FSL.
