PM Modi Reaffirms India's Commitment to BIMSTEC, Highlights Regional Cooperation Benefits

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India's commitment to BIMSTEC as a driver for economic and social growth. Modi engaged in fruitful discussions with BIMSTEC foreign ministers focused on regional cooperation in areas such as connectivity, energy, trade, health, agriculture, and security. He expressed India's full support for the upcoming BIMSTEC Summit in Thailand.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reiterated India's unwavering commitment to BIMSTEC, emphasizing its pivotal role in driving economic and social growth within the region.

The foreign ministers of BIMSTEC member states engaged in fruitful discussions with Modi during the final day of their retreat in Delhi, focusing on strengthening regional cooperation.

BIMSTEC, a seven-nation grouping uniting countries from South and Southeast Asia, aims to foster multifaceted cooperation in areas such as connectivity, energy, trade, health, agriculture, and security.

Besides India, the BIMSTEC comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Modi expressed his pleasure in meeting BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers and conveyed his support to Thailand for the upcoming Summit, scheduled to take place in September.

India hosted the BIMSTEC foreign ministers' retreat to review various initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation among member nations.

In his inaugural address at the retreat, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on the grouping to inject new energies and resources to bolster regional cooperation.

India is actively working to make BIMSTEC a robust platform for regional collaboration, in conjunction with its SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision.
