In a grave escalation of hostilities, Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon killed at least six Hezbollah fighters and one child on Friday, security sources have reported. The attacks prompted armed group Hezbollah to retaliate with artillery rounds and rockets across the border.
The clashes have intensified as Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah engage in frequent exchanges of fire along Lebanon's southern border, coinciding with the ongoing Gaza conflict. Security sources confirmed deaths in Mays al-Jabal, Tayr Harfa, and a separate strike in Aita.
Hezbollah identified one fighter killed in Aita as Mohammad Najem, targeted by Israel for his role in Hezbollah's rocket and missile unit. Both sides have reported firing projectiles with no injuries in northern Israel, further escalating tensions and impacting civilians. Reuters notes over 600 Lebanese deaths since last October, including over 400 Hezbollah combatants.
