A person has been arrested in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district on suspicion of involvement in the alleged murder of four individuals, police reported on Thursday. The victims, their hands and feet bound, and bearing cut marks on their necks, were discovered on July 6 in the forest outskirts of Umpleng village.

'In connection with the recovery of bodies of four people, suspected to have been murdered, a case was registered, and one person was arrested during the investigation,' said East Jaintia Hills SP Giri Prasad, speaking to PTI.

Efforts are underway to apprehend accomplices in the crime. Three of the four deceased have been identified as Nasar Kyndait (33) of Dkhiah East Pohshnong village, and Ravi Rai (23) and Rajesh Rai (26) of Nepal. The fourth victim remains unidentified, and three bodies have been handed over to their families.
