Iran Accuses US, Israel in Killing of Hamas Leader
Iran's Revolutionary Guard claims US-backed Israeli forces killed Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh with a short-range projectile in Tehran, sparking fears of regional conflict. This incident follows Israel's threats against Hamas leaders post-October 7 Gaza war. Iran vows retaliation against Zionist regime.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard reported that a short-range projectile was responsible for the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh. The Guard accused the United States of supporting the Israeli attack, according to a Saturday report on state TV.
The statement revealed a rocket with a seven-kilogram warhead targeted Haniyeh's residence in Tehran, causing extensive damage. Haniyeh was in Iran for the inauguration of Iran's new president, Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Guard condemned the action as a premeditated strike by the Zionist regime backed by the US. It warned of severe retaliation at an appropriate time. This killing has heightened fears of escalating into broader conflict between Iran and Israel, especially given recent military tensions.
