At least four security personnel, including two soldiers, were killed on Wednesday in an encounter with militants in northwest Pakistan, according to the army.
The operation, conducted in the Mattani Hassan Khel area of Peshawar district, was carried out by security forces and police based on intelligence reports of a "high-profile terrorist" presence, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing.
The joint intelligence-based operation (IBO) led to the deaths of a high-value terrorist commander and two other militants following an intense firefight, the ISPR reported.
The operation also saw the deaths of two soldiers and two policemen, as per the military statement.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the militants, said the press release.
''Pakistan's security forces stand shoulder to shoulder with other law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and stability across Pakistan, and such sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen our resolve,'' the ISPR statement concluded.
