Israel will react proportionately to Hamas attack-Italy foreign minister

Italy believes Israel will do everything to hit only Hamas as it reacts to a devastating attack by the militant group last weekend, the foreign minister said on Friday.

"I am convinced that Israel will have a proportionate reaction and will do everything to hit only Hamas," Minister Antonio Tajani said during a visit to Israel, stressing the country had a right to self-defence.

Tajani, who is also a deputy prime minister in the government of Giorgia Meloni, said Italy was still worried for its nationals on the ground and around 10 of them were still in the Gaza Strip.
