In the wake of claims about a purported phone call between US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia's foreign minister has made it clear the nation harbors no expectations from the new US administration. Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia would judge the US based on its tangible actions.
Lavrov emphasized the importance of dialogue, saying, 'the ball is in the US court,' indicating Russia's willingness to engage with the Trump administration. Meanwhile, the Kremlin debunked reports of a call with Trump as 'pure fiction,' following a Washington Post story.
Lavrov also commented on the geopolitical landscape, suggesting the US views Russia as a 'present-day threat' and implying that under Trump, containing China's rise remains a priority. While addressing the Ukraine conflict, he mentioned Russia's openness to negotiation, criticizing US reputation priorities over the realities faced by Ukrainians.
