In a grand ceremony on Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi lauded the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic medalists from the national capital. Addressing the achievement gap between India and smaller countries, she emphasized that the root lies not in the athletes but in systemic support, applauding the Delhi government's decade-long commitment to nurturing young talent.
Since 2018, an impressive 394 sportspersons have been bolstered with over Rs 25 crores, leading to significant infrastructural strides in Delhi, Atishi revealed. Earlier, illustrious athletes such as Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker and World Chess Champion Gukesh Dommaraju, along with Indian hockey and para-athletes, were distinguished with accolades including the Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards.
Indian athletes made a mark at the Paris 2024 Olympics, securing six medals while para-athletes amassed 29, featuring leaders like Neeraj Chopra, Avani Lekhara, and Harvinder Singh. Additionally, prestigious honors, including the Dronacharya Award, were recognized at an upcoming Rashtrapati Bhavan ceremony, underscoring India's rising sports trajectory.
