In the midst of the enduring conflict between Russia and Ukraine, David Cameron, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has recognized India's credibility to mediate, with a focus on prioritizing Ukraine's sovereignty and independence. Cameron made these remarks while speaking at the NDTV World Summit on 'The India Century.'

When questioned about India's capability to mediate in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Cameron emphasized, 'India certainly has the credibility. India might be in a position to mediate but that must be done in a way that recognizes Ukraine's sovereignty and independence.' India has expressed readiness to support any viable and mutually acceptable solution or format that could restore peace.

During a routine press briefing in August, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India's advocacy for constructive and practical engagement with all stakeholders to secure a negotiated settlement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In that month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ukraine to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, underscoring India's commitment to dialogue-based peace.

Cameron also stressed the pressing need for reforms in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), advocating for a permanent seat for India. He stated, 'We do need a reform of the UNSC... A permanent seat on the UNSC is something that should be India's right in this changed world...'

He noted, 'It is good to see India taking its place in more informal global institutions like Quad. I think that's a great move for India... G7 regularly invites India... These are all good moves because we need India's perspectives on challenges faced in the world.' Cameron highlighted the significance of India's investment in green technology and carbon reduction, identifying it as key to tackling climate change.

On India's global standing, Cameron described the nation as a 'shining example' of economic growth, democracy, and green transition. He opined, 'The world needs three things -- economic growth, more democracy, and the green transition to deal with climate change. And I think India is a shining example of all these three things.'
