In a bold condemnation, China's foreign ministry has accused Taiwan's leader, Lai Ching-te, of stirring tensions in the Taiwan Strait for personal political advantage.
Speaking at the ministry's regular briefing, spokesperson Mao Ning targeted Lai's recent speech in which he boldly declared that China has no authority over Taiwan.
Lai's statements, delivered during a national day celebration in Taipei, have drawn sharp criticism from Beijing, escalating an already tense relationship between the two entities.
