Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta, the US Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues, is set to visit India with a mission to fortify US-India bilateral relations. Her agenda focuses on advancing the US-India Alliance for Women's Economic Empowerment and tackling gender-based violence.

The visit will take place from September 11 to 16, according to a press release from the US Department of State. On September 11, Ambassador Rao Gupta will co-host a meeting of the US-India Alliance on Women's Economic Empowerment. This alliance includes key partners such as the US Department of State, USAID, the US-India Business Council, Johns Hopkins University's Gupta-Klinsky India Institute, and the American India Foundation. Notable officials like Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for Asia Anjali Kaur will also participate.

The alliance's first in-person meeting will discuss increasing women's participation in the corporate workforce, STEM education, and entrepreneurship in India. On September 12, the Ambassador will speak at the USIBC Ideas Summit Panel titled 'Leading the Charge: Women Pioneers Shaping the US-India Corridor.'

In Chennai on September 13, Ambassador Rao Gupta will meet regional government officials to emphasize the importance of women's safety from gender-based violence (GBV) in public spaces. She will also engage with private sector, labor, and civil society organizations to discuss the Dindigul Agreement as a model for preventing GBV and harassment in workplaces. On September 16, she will return to New Delhi to continue addressing GBV in public spaces, particularly focusing on public transit. She will deliver keynote remarks at a POWER Seminar on 'Empowering Women: Unveiling the Importance of Public Transport Facilities.'
