Amid growing tourism interest, IndiGo and Uzbekistan Airways are significantly expanding their flight services between India and Central Asia. The move aims to accommodate the rising number of Indian travelers exploring Central Asian countries.
IndiGo, the largest airline in India, will double its flights from Delhi to Almaty, Tbilisi, and Tashkent. This expansion, commencing in mid-August 2024, includes daily flights to these destinations, enhancing the previous schedule of weekly flights. IndiGo's Head of Global Sales, Vinay Malhotra, attributed this increase to the rising demand for outbound leisure travel.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan Airways will introduce direct flights between Tashkent and Goa from October 27, 2024, operating twice weekly. This new route is expected to foster tourism and cultural exchanges. The Goa Department of Tourism has been instrumental in establishing this connection, which Tourism Minister Rohan A Khaunte described as a milestone for the state's international outreach.
Social media trends are also influencing travel preferences, with many Indians sharing experiences from Central Asian destinations like Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. These regions have become more attractive due to better flight connectivity, easy visa processes, and affordable travel options. Uzbekistan, in particular, has emerged as a key destination due to its rich cultural heritage and historical significance.
