In a robust endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that Harris is 'astute and strategic in winning difficult elections,' and is poised to elevate America to new heights. Speaking at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago on Wednesday night, Pelosi highlighted Harris's deep faith and commitment to community service, as well as her political acumen.

'I know Vice President Harris is ready to take us to new heights,' Pelosi declared. Commending the Biden-Harris administration's achievements in job creation, child tax credit expansion, and climate legislation, Pelosi began her speech by recognizing their impactful governance, according to CNN.

Pelosi also acknowledged Tim Walz, the vice-presidential contender, lauding him for winning a red district and supporting the Affordable Care Act. She emphasized the critical lesson from the January 6 Capitol attack: 'Our democracy is only as strong as the courage and commitment of those entrusted with its care,' she said, underscoring the necessity of choosing leaders committed to free and fair elections, such as Harris and Walz.

Harris, the first woman of colour and first Asian American to lead a major party ticket, secured 99 percent of the vote according to the DNC. She was nominated following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race due to age-related concerns after a weak debate performance against Donald Trump in June.

Meanwhile, Trump, vying for a White House comeback, has selected JD Vance as his running mate. Vance, a venture capitalist and acclaimed author of the memoir 'Hillbilly Elegy,' joins Trump in the 2024 race. (ANI)
