At least 19 people have died and 11 have been injured in Balochistan due to ongoing monsoon rains affecting over 3,000 individuals, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), as reported by Dawn News. The rains, vital for replenishing water supplies and agriculture, have also led to severe weather-related disasters, exacerbated by climate change.

From July 1 to August 17, rain-related incidents have caused 195 deaths and 362 injuries nationwide, with 2,293 homes damaged, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). PDMA data shows Balochistan has experienced significant damage with 19 deaths, 11 injuries, and 3,031 affected, with 433 houses either partially or fully destroyed.

PDMA official Yunus Mengal mentioned that 16 districts in Balochistan have been impacted, with relief efforts ongoing. The provincial government has declared an emergency in several districts, including Kalat, Ziarat, Awaran, and others. Rainfall in Kalat was the highest at over 48 mm, with several areas experiencing significant flooding and damage to rice fields.

The National Highway Authority has reported that all highways in northern Balochistan are open, with repairs ongoing. Last summer's flooding disaster resulted in 1,700 deaths and affected 33 million individuals nationwide, with Balochistan and Sindh being hardest hit. Extensive damage was reported, including the loss of homes, crops, and livestock.

Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Deputy Chairman Senator Syedaal Khan expressed profound sadness over the recent losses and called for expedited rescue efforts. PPP Senator Sherry Rehman lamented the fatalities and emphasized the ongoing severe impacts of climate change, urging vigilance and further precautionary measures.
