Increase in Kharif Crop Coverage Due to Better Monsoon Rains

The area under Kharif crop coverage has increased by 4% this year to 408.72 lakh hectares, driven by better monsoon rains. Paddy, pulses, coarse cereals, oilseeds, and sugarcane have all seen acreage increases compared to the same period last year, according to government data.

In a continual boost to the agriculture sector, Kharif crop coverage has escalated by 4% this year, reaching 408.72 lakh hectares, thanks to favorable monsoon rains, as per the latest government data.

Paddy acreage alone has gone up from 393.57 lakh hectares in the previous year to 408.72 lakh hectares currently. Additionally, pulses have seen a rise in acreage to 125.13 lakh hectares, up from 116.66 lakh hectares last year.

The cultivation of coarse cereals and oilseeds has also surged, reaching 187.74 lakh hectares and 190.63 lakh hectares, respectively. Even the sugarcane acreage has reported a slight increase from 57.11 lakh hectares to 57.68 lakh hectares. Overall, the total area under the current Kharif season now stands at 1,087.33 lakh hectares, surpassing last year's 1,066.89 lakh hectares during the same period.
