Tel Aviv, Israel (ANI/TPS): Israel's Ministry of Health has released data indicating a decreased suicide rate in the aftermath of the October 7 Hamas terror massacre and the ensuing Iron Swords War in Gaza. This trend was observed despite reports in traditional and social media.

According to the Ministry's data, supported by the Mental Health Division and the National Suicide Prevention Council, the months spanning October to December 2023 showed a lower incidence of suicides compared to the same period in previous years, even including the pandemic years.

Experts suggest that the decline during periods of crisis is linked to increased social cohesion. Suicide accounts for about 1% of deaths among individuals aged 15 and above in Israel. In 2020, it was the second leading cause of death among youths aged 15-24. Overall, Israel's suicide rates remain among the lowest in Western countries.
