Sanjiv Ranjan Appointed Secretary General of Indian Ocean Rim Association

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Sanjiv Ranjan's appointment as Secretary General of the Indian Ocean Rim Association, based in Mauritius, for a three-year term starting January 1, 2025. Ranjan, a 1993 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, will lead the inter-governmental organization focused on regional economic cooperation.

Sanjiv Ranjan, a 1993 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been appointed as the Secretary General of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the Ministry of External Affairs' proposal for his three-year term, starting from January 1, 2025.

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pension announced that Ranjan's tenure includes the period up to his superannuation on January 31, 2026, or until further orders. The IORA, established in 1997, is an inter-governmental organization aimed at enhancing regional economic cooperation.

IORA, headquartered in Mauritius, comprises 23 member states including India, Australia, and South Africa, and 12 dialogue partners such as China, the USA, and the EU. Ranjan's appointment signifies a significant step in fostering stronger ties among Indian Ocean nations.
