Senator Faisal Vawda has heralded the arrest of former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief, Lieutenant General (retired) Faiz Hamid, as merely the beginning of a broader wave of accountability, Geo News reports. The arrest is associated with Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, suggesting more notable figures may soon face scrutiny.
'This is just the beginning; many big figures are about to fall,' Vawda remarked, hinting at further actions against the PTI. He praised the arrest as an 'excellent decision' for the nation's benefit and pledged to hold all responsible parties accountable for any damage done to Pakistan.
Vawda also predicted that PTI and its founder, Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned, will face consequences, describing the party and the former ISI chief as 'two sides of the same coin,' according to Geo News. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed Hamid's arrest, citing allegations of land grabbing and property theft. He will face disciplinary measures under the Pakistan Army Act.
Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister's advisor on political and public affairs, also lauded Hamid's arrest, asserting that it will bolster public faith and esteem for the Pakistan Army. He pointed out that Hamid was involved in the Faizabad sit-in agreement and assured that the court martial process will adhere to military law, as per Geo News reports.
Sanaullah further claimed that Hamid manipulated individuals during the Faizabad sit-in, promising that the investigation would disclose all pertinent details. 'Multiple irregularities must have been found in this regard,' he stated, urging adherence to the ISPR's official comments on the matter.
