Six individuals were discovered dead in a downtown Bangkok hotel room on Tuesday, with police suspecting they were poisoned, according to The New York Times. Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin confirmed that two of the deceased were Americans of Vietnamese descent and four were Vietnamese nationals.

Police Major General Theeradej Thumsuthee, the chief investigator of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, speaking on Nation TV, a Thai news channel, stated that the victims consisted of three men and three women. 'From the preliminary examination of the scene, it was assumed that they had been poisoned,' General Theeradej noted.

Theeradej further mentioned traces that suggested all six individuals had consumed coffee or tea. However, preliminary autopsy results revealed no injuries. A guide is currently being questioned as part of the inquiry, according to Lt Gen Thiti Saengsawang, the Metropolitan Police commissioner, who also reported no signs of a struggle.

The New York Times reported that the six victims were found in the same suite and had their bags packed, apparently ready to check out on Tuesday. Such incidents are rare in Bangkok, a city recently shaken by a shooting in a luxury mall last October involving a 14-year-old gunman.

The Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, where the incident took place, is located at a busy intersection opposite the Erawan Shrine, which was the site of a deadly bombing in 2015 that resulted in 20 fatalities. (ANI)
