The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has condemned the government's decision to ban Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, describing it as a blatant violation of constitutional rights. HRCP stressed that this ban contradicts Article 17, which guarantees freedom of association.

In a post on X, HRCP stated, "Human Rights Commission of Pakistan is shocked by the government's decision to ban the PTI. This move flagrantly violates party members' right to association under Article 17 of the Constitution and severely undermines democratic norms, especially following the Supreme Court's recognition of the PTI as a political party." The commission further pointed out that the PTI's status as the largest party in the National Assembly following a favorable ruling by the apex court makes the ban appear politically motivated.

The HRCP has called for an immediate reversal of the ban, warning that enforcing it will exacerbate political polarization and potentially incite chaos and violence. "HRCP demands that this unconstitutional decision be withdrawn immediately. If pushed through, it will achieve nothing more than deeper polarization and a strong likelihood of political chaos and violence," the HRCP warned. The commission also highlighted the importance of addressing the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and rising crime and militancy issues, urging the government to seek support from all political factions.
