Tragic Illicit Abortion Leads to Death and Arrests in Pune

A 24-year-old woman in Pune district died during an illegal abortion of a female foetus, resulting in the arrest of her husband and father-in-law. The four-month-old foetus was buried on a farm. The woman had previously given birth to a daughter and a son. Her family pressured her into the abortion.

In a tragic incident, a 24-year-old woman lost her life during an illicit procedure to abort a female foetus at her residence in Pune district. Authorities have arrested her husband and his father, an official reported on Tuesday.

Police disclosed that the four-month-old foetus was buried on a farm in a village in Indapur tehsil on Monday. The deceased, married to the accused since 2017, had previously given birth to a daughter and a son in 2021.

The woman became pregnant again, and upon discovering the foetus was female, her husband and his parents coerced her into undergoing an abortion at home, a police officer from Indapur police station revealed.
