West Bengal Govt Announces Compensation for Families Amid Junior Doctors’ Strike
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee announced a compensation of Rs two lakh for families of each of the 29 individuals who died due to the cease work of junior doctors. The doctors have been striking since August 9 after the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee.

In a recent announcement, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that the state government will pay a compensation of Rs two lakh to the families of each of the 29 victims who died allegedly due to the ongoing 'cease work' of agitating junior doctors.
Banerjee expressed her sorrow over the loss of lives caused by the disruption in health services, attributing it to the long-drawn strike. 'It is sad and unfortunate that we have lost 29 precious lives due to disruption in health services because of long-drawn cease work by junior doctors,' she posted on X.
The junior doctors have been on strike since August 9, following the alleged rape and murder of an on-duty postgraduate trainee at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The financial relief is aimed to extend a helping hand to the bereaved families, Banerjee added.
