The West Bengal Medical Council has issued a show cause notice to Sandip Ghosh, the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, following allegations of financial irregularities. This follows his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The financial irregularities came to light after the tragic death of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor on August 9. The doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty, an incident that sparked nationwide protests. The council's notice to Dr. Ghosh is a preliminary step before potentially canceling his medical registration.
In addition, three other doctors close to Ghosh have been asked to cease council activities until cleared of similar accusations. The West Bengal Medical Council received numerous complaints about these doctors threatening other medics at several state-run hospitals.
