The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court's intervention into the rape and murder case of a Kolkata medic, highlighting its importance for the medical fraternity's interests.

Doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital supported the move, chanting slogans like 'Supreme Court zindabad'.

FORDA stated, 'We welcome the exhaustive session by the Hon'ble Supreme Court and trust their intervention in the larger interest of our fraternity. We will consult with all our stakeholders before making a decision.'

In response to the incident, the Supreme Court has formed a 10-member task force to create a national protocol ensuring doctors' safety and workplace facilities, with interim and final reports due within three weeks and two months, respectively.

A FORDA representative informed PTI that a meeting with all stakeholders would be held before deciding on any strike action.

Similarly, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) announced plans for a consultation, stating, 'We will update soon. The decision will be made after considering every state RDA's input and will be based on the majority's decision.'

The announcement comes as doctors enter the ninth day of their strike, primarily focused on demanding a central law for the safety of medical professionals and advocating for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Kolkata incident.
