On the inaugural day of the monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, the Mahila Congress organized a 'Vidhan Sabha Gherao' protest, advocating for improved safety and security for women both in Himachal Pradesh and across the nation. This demonstration falls under the broader 'Nari Nyay Aandolan' movement, which pushes for a 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies and enhanced safety measures nationwide.

'There has been a serious allegation against BJP MLA Hansraj, and so far, no action has been taken. An FIR has been registered, and we are demanding an update on the investigation regarding the BJP Legislator, who has been accused by a young girl of soliciting obscene videos,' stated Alka Lamba, a senior Congress leader. Lamba further criticized a recent statement by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, adding, 'It is unfortunate to see an MP comparing farmers to rapists and murderers. The Prime Minister should apologize to the farmers, and the BJP MP should be removed from Parliament.'

Jenab Chandel, Chief of the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Congress, expressed outrage: 'There is widespread concern over the safety and security of women, and here, a BJP MLA is accused of harassment. The BJP has a history of shielding those accused of crimes against women. Our government has filed an FIR, and we demand the police arrest the legislator. Our national chief is here to support us, and we want to highlight our protest and the collective anger of women against these injustices.' Chandel also condemned derogatory remarks made by a BJP MP about farmers, stressing the need for respect and justice for the agrarian community.

As part of the 'Nari Nyay Aandolan,' the Mahila Congress is stepping up its campaign by meeting state governors across India to press for their demands, focusing on women's safety and political accountability. (ANI)
