Healthcare services in state-run hospitals across West Bengal hit a standstill as junior doctors continued their ceasework agitation, now in its 12th day, to protest against the alleged rape and murder of a female medic.
Long queues were seen at several government-run hospitals, where senior doctors and assistant professors attended to patients. The tragic incident occurred on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, prompting medics nationwide to demand justice and improved workplace security.
In the wake of the incident, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe, and a civic volunteer has been arrested for alleged involvement in the crime.
