Doctors Demand Central Law to Protect Against Violence

The AIIMS Resident Doctors' Association has urgently requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene for the enactment of a central law to protect healthcare workers and institutions. The AIIMS Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) has appealed directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging his intervention for a central law to protect healthcare workers and institutions nationwide. The demand follows the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College.

The association highlighted the need for a central ordinance with stringent penalties to curb increasing violence against medical professionals. This plea comes amid rising incidents of aggression towards healthcare workers and vandalism at medical facilities across the country.

Protests have erupted nationwide demanding justice for the victim, while the Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the case. The incident has intensified calls for mandatory security measures at hospitals to ensure safer working environments for doctors.
