A 45-year-old woman named Shanti Kujjur died while being carried to a hospital on a traditional bedstead by her relatives in Jharkhand's Latehar district. Poor road conditions prevented ambulances from reaching her village.

Local Block Development Officer Amren Dang described the incident as ''very sad'' and said he is gathering details. He assured villagers that basic infrastructure problems, including road construction, would be addressed as a priority.

The woman, suffering from fever and body ache, complained of chest pain on Monday morning. Despite a nearby community health centre, her family resorted to carrying her on their shoulders to a hospital four kilometers away. She was declared dead on arrival, reportedly from a heart attack.

Former panchayat committee member Dharmendra Singh noted long-standing demands for a proper road had been ignored for decades, suggesting this neglect contributed to the tragedy. Villagers cited the chronic issue of inaccessible roads for emergency medical services.

The Block Development Officer has instructed medical teams and local officials to ensure immediate action to prevent such incidents.
