In Bhubaneswar, the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is set to engage with 16 delegations to deliberate on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal emphasized the inclusive nature of the discussions, which will feature inputs from High Court lawyers, Islamic scholars, and social organizations, among others.
Addressing opposition boycotts, Pal clarified that the JPC's objective is to gather suggestions from various states. He underscored that politics should not overshadow the committee's mission to include voices possibly unable to reach Delhi, following previous meetings in several states.
BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi reiterated the committee's dedication to hearing stakeholders across Odisha, amid ongoing allegations of impropriety from the opposition. Nonetheless, some members, like Congress MP Jaiwaid, criticize the partial attendance in these study tours, questioning the boycott's impact on the committee's effectiveness.
