The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) has called for the transfer of Jind Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar amid allegations of sexual harassment brought by female police personnel. HSCW Chairperson Renu W. Bhatia confirmed discussions took place with Kumar, who appeared to deny the charges during a meeting held on Wednesday morning.
In a letter to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the Commission stressed the importance of a fair probe into the accusations. 'To ensure a fair inquiry, we've requested the transfer of SP Jind,' Bhatia said, following a formal hearing at the Commission's office in New Delhi, where Kumar presented his defense.
The controversy drew further attention following a statement from wrestler-turned-politician Vinesh Phogat, who voiced support for the victims and questioned the state's commitment to women's safety. Amid these developments, the Commission has scheduled an inquiry on November 7 to advance the investigation without influence from Jind SP Sumit Kumar.
