A shocking case of animal cruelty has emerged in Pune, Maharashtra, where a dog was reportedly beaten and hanged to death by its owners. Enraged by the incident, police have booked a woman and her son following a complaint from an animal rights activist.
The brutal act took place in the Pirangut area of Mulshi tehsil, prompting animal activist Padmini Stump to file a complaint. Stump, who runs a dog shelter, was alerted to the incident by Farheen Sheikh after being asked to urgently take the dog away.
Stump described receiving distressing evidence, including photos and a video, showcasing the inhumane treatment of the dog. Allegedly, the owners acted due to potential rabies concerns or their move to a new residence. The dog, their companion of eight years, was found deceased in a field.
An FIR citing serious charges, including BNS Section 325 and sections under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, has been lodged and an investigation is underway. The case has stirred public outrage, with activists calling for accountability and urging responsible pet ownership.
The gruesome act has sparked a larger conversation on animal welfare, underscoring the need for stringent enforcement of animal protection laws. Stump has appealed to the public, advocating for mindful decisions when adopting pets, underscoring that such cruelty must never recur.
