A 33-year-old man allegedly attacked his friend with a knife before attempting to take his own life after she ceased communication with him, officials reported on Saturday. The incident occurred in Bhandup, an eastern Mumbai suburb, on Wednesday afternoon. Both the accused and the woman are hospitalized.

According to Bhandup police, the man, identified as Gyandev Bhagne, attacked the woman in a fit of rage and subsequently tried to commit suicide. The woman is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Mulund, while Bhagne has been admitted to Sion Hospital, where his condition remains critical.

The victim, a resident of Gaavdevi Hill in Bhandup West, had known Bhagne for five years. Relations soured when she stopped speaking to him, leading to the violent confrontation. Bhagne has been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Police Act. An investigation is ongoing.
