A UN independent expert, Francesca Albanese, has expressed grave concerns over Israel's intensified military actions in the northern West Bank, describing them as a dangerous escalation of violence and human rights violations against Palestinians. Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, warned that Israel's actions risk expanding genocidal violence beyond Gaza into the entire occupied Palestinian territory.
Albanese highlighted the increasing military operations in Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarem, and Tubas governorates, particularly in refugee camps, resulting in significant casualties, destruction of infrastructure, and displacement of Palestinians. She pointed out that since October 7, 2023, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed, thousands injured, and many displaced or detained under Israel's occupation.
The expert criticized the international community's failure to hold Israel accountable, calling for immediate action to prevent further violence and to end what she describes as Israel's colonization of Palestinian territory. Albanese's warning underscores the urgent need for global intervention to protect Palestinian lives and ensure justice and accountability.
