Arvind Kejriwal's aide, Bibhav Kumar, walked out of Tihar jail on Tuesday after being granted bail in the high-profile Swati Maliwal assault case, according to official sources.
Kumar, who had been held in jail number five for over three months, was released at 2 pm. Official commentary confirmed his prolonged detention and the nature of the case against him.
The Supreme Court granted Kumar bail on Monday, citing his more than 100 days in custody. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan emphasized the prolonged nature of the trial, with over 51 witnesses yet to be examined. They also noted that Kumar's release would not hinder the investigation.
Kumar was implicated in the assault allegations by Maliwal, which reportedly took place on May 13 at Kejriwal's official residence. Following the incident, Kumar was arrested on May 18 after an FIR was registered against him on May 16 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including assault and attempted culpable homicide.
