The Assam government has enacted the Assam Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Act, 2024, to promote transparency and fairness in public recruitment exams, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office on Wednesday.
The new legislation aims to deter malpractice by imposing penalties of up to 10 years imprisonment and fines reaching Rs 10 crore on offenders. Examinees guilty of cheating could also face bans from future recruitment tests, reinforcing Assam's commitment to merit-based hiring in government positions, as stated by the CMO.
In a meeting held on September 8, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to ensure the smooth execution of the ADRE 2024 exams for Grade III and Class IV positions, starting from September 15, 2024.
During the meeting, Sarma emphasized the importance of a transparent and fair examination process and instructed District Commissioners to take personal charge of ensuring necessary amenities at exam centers. He also tasked SPs with implementing stringent security measures and called for an increased online vigilance to combat any attempts to undermine the exam's integrity.
