A violent encounter between security forces and terrorists broke out at the Kathua-Basantgarh border in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday.

Initiated from specific intelligence reports, the operation led to direct contact with the terrorists at the border, as confirmed by the Public Relations Officer for Defence in Jammu.

The situation remains fluid as the operation continues, awaiting further details, the PRO added. Earlier the same day, the BSF reported one of its soldiers sustained injuries from unprovoked firing by Pakistan in the Akhnoor sector near the International Border.

The BSF confirmed that the firing incident occurred around 2:35 am and was met with an immediate response from the troops. "One BSF personnel was injured in the firing from the Pakistani side. Troops are on high alert," stated the BSF, which manages the India-Pakistan border.

Stretching approximately 3,323 kilometers, the India-Pakistan border divides the two nations and spans various sectors with diverse levels of tension and security concerns. Especially the border in Jammu and Kashmir remains a hotspot for frequent skirmishes and ceasefire violations, escalating into significant security challenges over the years. (ANI)
